Please Note: In many of the scripts, several characters can be played by one actor or actress. I like to write plays with roles of varying sizes -- as many students do not have the time to commit to memorizing a large part.


I have had great success with girls playing boys' roles and vice versa.

All of these scripts can be performed in under an hour. I usually add dances between or during scenes to involve more students.

A Pirate's Tale

A daring adventure on the junior high seas. The Sea Hawk is a daring pirate who commands an all-female crew. His loyal first mate Meg is secretly in love with him. After raiding the Pigeon, Hawk is surprised to discover his long lost fiance --  the selfish, spoiled Louisa Fairborne and Popeye, a salty stowaway. It is only a matter of time before Hawk crosses swords with  his deadliest enemy, Captain Kid, a heartless pirate with a buried treasure and a lisp.   30 pages. 20 Characters

Drive

Tom  pits for his best friend Grady  but dislikes the way Grady treats the people around him. Grady has a bad habit of trash talking his main competitor Neil and of walking all over their friend Ivan. Also Tom still has feelings for his former girlfriend Kelly , who just happens to be dating Grady. Meanwhile Kelly is committed to getting the new Teen Centre up and running, despite the lack of cooperation she receives from her friends and fellow peer counselors Rachel  and Melinda. Will Grady ever learn that the only competitor he needs to worry about is himself? Will Kelly find a way to keep the Teen Centre open? Will Tom ever put his own feelings ahead of his best friend’s?    25 pages. 9 characters.

Bullyland

A serious play about a serious issue. A boy magician narrates while different bullying scenarios are explored. Some violent imagery appears in an effort to bring home the message of the destructive effects of bullying. 30 pages. 15 characters.

Jungle Journey
Kate Temple is a strong-willed magazine reporter who is determined to find the mysterious white Bula Bula tribe and her anthropologist grandfather, Dr. Artemis Temple. She is accompanied by her nervous and protective Aunt Bertie, resourceful photographer Lily Smythe, and Roger Northrup, the son of the  magazine's editor. Kate is saved by the manly Dirk Blade, an itinerant guide and hunter, when she is betrayed by two treacherous guides. 35 pages. 15 Characters.

Robin Hood and the Spanish Princess

Come join Robin Hood and Ned and the band of Merry Men for an adventure deep in Sherwood Forest. Prince John's betrothed, Princess Catarina of Spain, arrives in England, but is waylaid by the evil Countess of Sussex and her henchman, the Sheriff of Nottingham. Will Ned be able to save her -- only to see her wed to the cruel and inept Prince John? 36 pages. 13 characters.


Home for the Holidays

A woman recently separated from her husband, is spending Christmas with her parents   and three children. Grandma has a habit of meddling in her daughter's life and tries to encourage a relationship with her widowed next door neighbour.  26 pages. 8 Characters.

Follow That Star

Matt Parker is very depressed after the death of his best friend and is sullen and moody around his parents. His father Dave is a pastor and his mother Diane is a kindergarten teacher.  His little sister Lucy is a mouthy pest. Matt's life is changed when he and Lucy discover a mysterious homeless person named Mel, living in a tent in the park across the street.  Religious content. 25 pages. 6 Characters.



A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Planet Astrologia

A combination of Star Trek (both new and old) and Star Wars.  Captain James T. Kook, the manly captain of the USSJH, has a girlfriend on every planet and problems with anger management. He is advised by Vulcan crewmember Mr. Smock, who has taken up a new passion for throwing pots (hence the smock). Mr. Spot, the ship's engineer, is constantly worried about the status of the ship's engines and barks for some mysterious reason. Nurse Chapstick is always armed with a needle or tube of lipstick. Villains include the Kling-tu commander, who is determined to destroy Kook, his archrival,  and Amazonia, the Queen of the Universe. 26 pages. 12 Characters.

Explores the dark world of female bullying and the ever-expanding role of technology in the arsenal of the female bully. Some sexual content. 23 pages. 12 characters.



Klondike Fever

During the goldrush, Thaddeus Brown, a shy paleontologist, lands in Fortymile Creek in 1897 in search of mammoth fossils. Along the way he encounters Josie, a prospector's niece who's just found a fortune in gold on her claim and Robert Dalton, a recently impoverished conman. With the help of colourful characters like Stinky Clem, Ptarmigan Pete, and Jacques Noir, as well as a historical icon named Sam Steele, Thaddeus Brown  finds everything he's looking for in the wild and woolly Canadian north. 38 pages. 18 characters.


Dick and Jane Go to Egypt

Dick Carter, the great-grandson of archaeologist Howard Carter, is determined to find the remains of Cleopatra and Mark Antony. Accompanied by his assistant Jane, Dick journeys to Egypt, where he encounters Aphrodite, a Canadian pop-star, who just happens to be Gladys, an acquaintance from elementary school. Aphrodite is shooting a music video in the Valley of the Kings and could really use a historical consultant, since she isn't getting much cooperation from Jeani Francois, the ex-popstar who is directing her video.  In the desert, Dick and Jane encounter a pair of whiny children and a group of fierce desert warriors. This script features fewer lines for the key characters, and a number of small and medium-sized roles, including dancing mummies!30 pages. 25 characters
